Motorcycle Miles for Moffitt
On February 13, 2010, almost 200 bikers braved the frigid temperatures in Tampa for the Harley Davidson Miles for Moffitt Poker Run. These hardy, warm-hearted souls made their mileage count by raising dollars for cancer research at Moffitt.
Led by Honorary Chair, Dave Andreychuk on his Harley, the enthusiastic participants completed the five-stop poker run, picking a card at each stop for a five-card hand. The $500 cash prize winner for the best hand donated back $300 to Miles for Moffitt. Likewise, the winner of the 50/50 raffle prize of more than $500 also wanted the money to go back to Miles for Moffitt for cancer research.
Proceeds from the day topped $5,000, but nothing topped the emotion and sincerity demonstrated by the survivors. Each survivor briefly gave their name, number of years of surviving and expressed appreciation for Moffitt. Tattoos are nothing new to bikers, but one tattoo especially stood out. Survivor Billy Smith rolled up his sleeves to reveal the Moffitt logo boldly tattooed on his forearm. Moffitt is making a difference in the lives of cancer patients, and all of the participants and sponsors are helping Moffitt in their mission to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer.
